Get to know the musicians and singers better

of.

My name is Henrik Dam Thomsen

Born in 1973 and is 1st Solo Cellist in DRSO

I was introduced to the cello at the age of 9 and knew right away that it was what I was going to do for a living.

Joined DRSO in 1999 and has also had a short stint at Det Kgl Kapel.

I have always enjoyed projects alongside the orchestra. Soloist work, teaching, chamber music, and a wide range of tasks as a studio musician on music and film productions.

In recent years, I have enjoyed an extensive collaboration with DR Pigekoret.

I'm interested in the breadth of music and enjoy working across genres.

Favourite composers including: Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, Schubert, Strauss, Mahler, Ravel.

Richard Strauss's opera, “Die frau ohne schatten” required an unusually large amount of rehearsal work. Strauss's works are incredibly demanding, but always possible to learn if you practice enough (you can't cheat your way to it).

My name is Jens Olav Heckmann
 Born: 4. 4th July 1978

I am the 2nd tenor in DR KoncertKoret

I started my musical journey by playing the trumpet when I was 7 years old. Later I replaced the trumpet with a trombone and started on the MGK's two-track programme at Kolding Music School in 2000. After 2 years at MGK, I applied to study Musicology at Aalborg University in 2002 and for the first time in my life, I was taught to sing.

After 5 years at university, where I had sung in various chamber choirs, including the Music Students' Chamber Choir (then conducted by Mogens Dahl and the chamber choir Coro Misto, still conducted by Søren Birch), I decided at the age of 29 to apply to Nordjysk Musikkonservatorium in Aalborg (later Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium) and was admitted to classical singing with Annette Bo Nielsen, who was a lecturer in Aalborg at the time.

After my bachelor's degree in 2010, I spent a year in Leipzig, Germany, where I studied with the Danish tenor Kristian Sørensen (tenor in the MDR Radio Choir). In 2012 I completed my master's programme in Aalborg and have subsequently lived as a choir director, teacher, ensemble singer and performing artist. Private singing studies with blah. Jens Krogsgaard, Tonny Landy and in Chicago with Prof. W. Stephen Smith, author of the book “The Naked Voice - A Wholistic Approach to Singing”. In December 2014, I jumped in as an evangelist in Bach's Christmas Oratorio with Det Jyske Vokalensemble and have subsequently been associated with the ensemble as a permanent member.

I got my first job at DR in June 2015, where I was offered a one-year contract and hired permanently in 2016.

In addition to my work in DR KoncertKoret, I am employed as a church singer in Aars Church in Vesthimmerland Municipality with 20 hours a week.

My absolute favourite piece of symphonic choral music is Brahms“ ”Ein deutsche Requiem“, which I had the great pleasure of singing in a DR context in August 2015. Other great musical experiences I have had with DR include ”Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln" by Franz Schmidt, which we performed in December 2017 and Mahler's 8. Symphony, which we performed in September 2017 together with my old singing teacher Kristian Sørensen and the MDR Choir, as well as other great moments I have experienced with DR's ensembles.

The hardest thing I've ever sung is without a doubt Franz Schmidt “Das Buch mit Sieben Siegeln”
