Name: Lise Bendix

I grew up in Juelsminde and Horsens and have loved singing for as long as I can remember.

Church choir singing and children's musical theatre at a very musical school led me on the path to the career I have since embarked on. My name is Lise Bech Bendix, I'm a soprano and I made my debut in October 2014 from the soloist class at the Royal Academy of Music. Even before my debut, I had already signed a contract with Den Jyske Opera and in the 2015 season I sang the female lead in Den Jyske Opera and Limfjordsteatret's new opera production for children, the critically acclaimed ”For Enden af Tunnelen”.

Prior to the soloist programme, I trained as a classical singer and vocal pedagogue with a Master's degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2010 and a Bachelor's degree from the Royal Academy of Music in 2007.

Two and a half years into my bachelor's degree programme, I sang in the final of the Danish/Norwegian part of Yamaha's international singing competition in 2007, when I was called by my birth name, Lise Bech Christensen.

During the programmes, I received graduate teaching from Bodil Øland, Hanna Hjort and Ingrid Haking Raaby.

In 2008 I sang for a coveted position as 1st soprano in the DR KoncertKoret and got it, I remember there were about 30-40 sopranos and we were 3 who were hired. My employment began on 1 January 2009, which meant that the very first concert I sang with the DR Concert Choir was the grand opening concert that marked the inauguration of the big new blue box: DR Koncerthuset! In addition to singing in the Concert Choir, I have regularly been offered to sing in vocal ensemble projects. Time has passed, and I have now been employed in the DR Koncertkoret for 9 years, and this spring I will sing my 2nd prolongation performance.

In addition to the Danish National Concert Choir, I am a soprano soloist in many different contexts. My repertoire ranges widely and includes lieder, oratorios and opera. It is often as an oratorio soloist and in other church concert contexts that I sing as a soloist around the country. I have sung the soprano parts in works such as Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Bach's St John Passion, Bach's St Matthew Passion, Boccherini's Stabat Mater, Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem, Couperin's Lésons de Ténèbres, Dvorak's Te Deum, Dvorak's Mass in D, Faure's Requiem, Gades Elverskud, Handel's Messiah, Handel's Jephtha, Mozart's C minor Mass/Gross Mass, Mozart's Missa Brevis in F, Mozart's Requiem, Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate, Mozart's Vesperae solennes de confessore, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Rossini's Petit Messe Solennelle, Vivaldi's Gloria. As well as div. Bach cantatas. I have performed as a soloist with the Copenhagen Bach Choir for the past five years.

I work with several ensembles and also create musical performances together with a storyteller, for example at the Hans Christian Andersen Festival in Odense.

Stage experience and the joy of performing as a soloist in opera, operetta, musicals and singing have been with me since before my conservatory education. I sang leading roles such as Magnolia in Showboat, Anastasia in The Prince of Czardas, Maria in The Sound of Music and many more as a young aspiring amateur at large-scale open-air theatres and summer plays, including Palsgaard Sommerspil in Jutland.

Communicating the stories of music and opening the door for the audience into the universe of music and emotions is my passion and driving force as a singer. I am interested in sharing the song with others, sharing the stories of art - be it text or music - to convey, interpret, pass on the story - the song - the opera to the audience.

As a private person, I live with my family in an old historic house in Nyborg. In my pedagogical work, I hold workshops for choirs in singing technique, I work as a singing consultant at Sangens Hus and am affiliated with Nyborg Music School as a teacher and singing teacher in classical singing at Den Fynske Sangskole. At Den Jyske Opera I also create and develop opera workshops for children.
