Almost 200 of the association's members made their way to the general meeting on 27 October.<\/p>\n

And not only did they get a say in who will lead the Friends' Association for the next year. They also got a musical programme out of the ordinary.<\/p>\n

The President, Mogens Rubinstein, touched on several points in his report. Among other things, he said<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP WITH DR<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

From New Year's Eve, there are now fairly watertight barriers between DR and us. At previous general meetings, the Choir and Orchestra Director, Kim Bohr, the Chairman of the Orchestra Association, now Dorte Bennike, and the Chairman of the Vocal Ensemble, Emil Lykke, have sat here at the board table.<\/p>\n

They - or their functions - have all been born members of the board. But that's over now. To put it in plain Danish, DR has become terrified of being accused of being beholden to interests outside the institution. So DR employees are not allowed to sit on external boards, including the board of the Friends of DR.<\/p>\n

We on the board have been pleased with the co-operation and inspiration from the professionals. And we would like to thank Kim Bohr as well as Dorte Bennike and her predecessor, Ren\u00e9 Matthiesen AND Emil Lykke from VokalEnsemblet for their valuable contributions to the board.<\/p>\n

The new times also mean that all enquiries regarding tickets for rehearsals and other events are a direct matter between our members and DR. DR sells the tickets, they decide which rehearsals we can attend (sometimes it's a practical matter, sometimes it's guest conductors who don't want an audience at rehearsals), and DR is also responsible for the rehearsals themselves, access control etc. As well as the coffee and tea.<\/p>\n

This does NOT mean that the board just sits back and says: it's DR's business, not ours, when there are things that cause problems for our members. I myself have regular meetings with Kim Bohr, where I - now as a customer - raise any issues with him. Likewise, both Milena and the board are working to get as many - and the best possible - open samples on our programme, but we will never get access to all the samples.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

ABOUT THE TESTS<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

We know that some members have not had all their wishes fulfilled in terms of tickets this season.<\/p>\n

Naturally, we on the board want everyone to be able to fulfil all their wishes, but that's not the reality. Some rehearsals were sold out within the first 24 hours, while a fortnight later there were plenty of tickets for other events. We never avoid red lights for some of the offers very quickly.<\/p>\n

Then someone says to us: Then we need to have fewer members so there's room for everyone. The board has no plans to throw any of you out. But as I said, there are still tickets available for events for members of the Friends' Association, while other rehearsals are sold out, especially those that take place in the smaller studios.<\/p>\n

We must also remember that we want as much money as possible to donate to good causes, and it takes members to get it. However, we agree that there should be an appropriate balance between the number of members and the opportunities to take advantage of the offers from DR.<\/p>\n

At the end of the association year at the end of June, we have 2117 members, which is a little, but not much less than last year, HOWEVER - just a few years ago we were 2700, so we need to keep adding new members as some of our good old members drop out for one reason or another.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

ABOUT PROGRAMME CHANGES<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

We also know that many members were disappointed to attend the dress rehearsal of the concert where Gustav Holst's The Planets was the big number on the programme. This was not the case at the dress rehearsal, as the rehearsal for this piece had been held the day before.<\/p>\n

As soon as we get this information - and we do this at least 16 hours before the trial starts - we'll post the announcement on our website, so check it regularly.<\/p>\n

It is the conductors who sovereignly decide the course of the battle. The many who attended the rehearsal on 3 October (Shostakovich's 9th Symphony) before the rehearsal in the foyer and heard the aforementioned Dorte Bennike, chairman of the orchestra association, talk about - shall we say: what goes on in the orchestra's engine room, will know that it was actually the brass players at the aforementioned rehearsal with Holst and others who simply could not deliver the goods for the rehearsal on Thursday in a way that they themselves were satisfied with when they had to play again that evening. It would be too physically demanding.<\/p>\n

We will take up episodes like this and the problems with ticket bookings with DR, please be assured, but we also have to admit that DR would be out of their minds if they had as perfect a programme to listen to the rehearsals for 50 kroner as the evening concertgoers have to pay several hundred kroner for.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

ABOUT SUPPORT<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

As an organisation, we exist primarily to support the ensembles.<\/p>\n

We can't change DR's rules. They don't just apply to the music department, but to the entire house. This in no way means that we have a bad relationship with DR. We actually have an excellent collaboration with the Choir and Orchestras, and I have to say from both management and musicians and singers that it strengthens their professionalism that there are members of the Friends' Association at their (general) rehearsals. We have also met with nothing but satisfaction with our support for DR's ensembles. The board is delighted<\/p>\n

Because: As stated in our mission statement, the whole point of the membership fee is to support the ensembles in general, but also in terms of attitude AND financially.<\/p>\n

We've done the same this year. We granted a substantial amount of money to the Girls' Choir so they could come to Paris and sing for their patron, the Crown Princess and her husband, and the French President's wife, Brigitte Macron, among others.<\/p>\n

We have also donated scholarships in connection with our most recent general meeting, as we usually do, and we have supported with prizes for the tests for young people at the conservatory, which will enable DR to continue to recruit the most talented musicians. This also applies to the popular work reviews with small music examples, which can be a good preparation for rehearsals - or, for that matter, a deeper immersion after rehearsals. ACCOUNTING<\/strong><\/p>\n

The association's treasurer, Ann Granum, reviewed the annual accounts, which can be found on the website.<\/p>\n

The accounts were adopted by acclamation.<\/p>\n

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ulrik Skat S\u00f8rensen wanted to leave the board. At the same time, the three members from DR (Choir and Orchestra Director Kim Bohr, Chairman of Orkesterforeningen Dorte Bennike and Chairman of VokalEnsemblet Emil Lykke) had to leave the board due to new rules in DR regarding participation in external boards.<\/p>\n

This resulted in some changes to the articles of association and new elections to the board, which can now have up to seven members, all external to DR. So far, six have been elected.<\/p>\n

Newly elected were<\/p>\n

Ulla Knudsen, former viola player in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and soprano Hj\u00f8rdis Jakobsen, who has previously sung in the Danish National Vocal Ensemble. And both have experience from board work in their organisations.<\/p>\n

The chairman welcomed the fact that the new members can give the board the professional input that the DR representatives have previously provided.<\/p>\n

SUGGESTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Members suggested a simpler way to legitimise membership of the association when going in for rehearsals. There was also a suggestion to be able to transfer tickets you can't use to others. The board agreed to do this on the spot, as long as you inform the office that you have given your ticket to someone else. The board promised to look into the possibilities for the smoothest possible solution to access control, so that you don't have to take your membership card with the tickets to the rehearsals, but at the same time ensure that no one \u201dsneaks\u201d into the rehearsals without paying the membership fee to support musicians and singers.<\/p>\n

A proposal from a member to make former Director General Christian S. Nissen an honorary member of the Friends was rejected without debate.<\/p>\n
