Dear members of the Society of Friends,
We are well into 2021, and I would like to wish a happy new year to all of you who follow and support DR's choirs and orchestras by being members of our Friends of DR. Your great commitment and interest means a lot to our singers and musicians, not least in these challenging times.
After the lockdown in December, all choirs and orchestras have been sent home, but luckily there was still plenty of opportunity to experience lots of music and singing from DR Koncerthuset during the Christmas season - from DR Pigekorets Nytårssange in a special corona version to festive Christmas and New Year versions of The Classical Music Quiz. I hope you enjoyed it too!
Fortunately, the DR Symphony Orchestra's concerts managed to go ahead almost as planned until December. However, as you have all noticed, we have had to inconvenience both concert audiences and you ’Friends’ with cancellations, relocation in the hall and cancellation of tickets due to the changing precautions and restrictions.
This is the time of year when we normally unveil the upcoming season of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and give you the opportunity to book rehearsal tickets. However, due to the many extraordinary circumstances that interfere with our planning, this year we have chosen to postpone the season presentation to Monday 12 April. Here, DR Symphony Orchestra subscribers will receive the brochure for the upcoming season by post and/or email and have the opportunity to choose a subscription until 5 May, when we open for bulk sales.
We're well into the planning of the season and I can reveal that there's a lot to look forward to. I can also promise you that we have 106 musicians who are more than eager to start playing for you again. Together with the orchestra, I sincerely look forward to presenting the new season and to seeing as many of you as possible in the Concert Hall when the mild spring winds hopefully also hit culture and music.
In the meantime, I highly recommend that you tune in to P2 Thursday evenings, where we continue to broadcast Thursday Concerts directly from DR Koncerthuset in a special, intimate corona format. Here you can experience some of the artists who should have performed with the DR Symphony Orchestra these months, such as star pianist Alice Sara Ott, who will play an exclusive solo concert on Thursday 28 January, which will also be recorded for TV.
Take care of each other until we meet again - and remember to listen to lots of good music in your living rooms until then!
Kim Bohr
