With the stunt competitions, DKDM and DRSO have created a great collaboration between two major institutions in Danish music life.
DKDM's work to develop and educate the greatest talents in the classical music world is combined with DRSO's desire to support the programme.
It's one thing to master your instrument to perfection, which young people learn at the conservatory, but it's another to practice the art of participating in and winning the competitions that are a prerequisite for jobs in the big orchestras.
Taking part in competitions is a very special discipline, often more than 100 competitors from all over the world are entered for a single position in a symphony orchestra. The selection process is rigorous, each competitor is given just a few minutes in the preliminary rounds to distance themselves from the other competitors and qualify for the next rounds.
The musician needs to be ”on” from the first second, control their nerves, show their musicality and technique convincingly.
With the stunt competitions, students face a professional jury of DRSO members, the whole build-up to the stunt competition is like a real competition, and the atmosphere is tense and very determined.
But it is only a test, and afterwards qualitative feedback from the jury is given directly to the participants, and the Friends and DKDM have provided funding so that the students who show the most talent can receive a small token of appreciation for a job well done.
In the long term, DKDM and DRSO hope that these stunt competitions can help, support and develop the students' opportunities to obtain jobs and thus secure their own future and carry talent and quality into Danish music life.
